Chicago Hope is a medical drama series set in a fictional private charity hospital. Although the series follows a group of doctors and nurses working together, one of the main storylines involves Dr. Jeffery Geiger, an exceptionally talented surgeon who is dealing with emotional issues after his wife succumbs to her own psychiatric condition and drowns their infant son. In later seasons, Dr. Geiger encounters another antagonist in Dr. Kate Austin, who competes with Dr. Geiger for the chief surgeon position.
