This adventure drama series first aired on NBC from April 1989 to 1990, and then in first run syndication from 1991 to may 2001 for a total 243 episodes.
Filmed on the beaches of Southern California, Baywatch was about a team of lifeguards whose job it is to protect the public as they enjoy their time at the beach. The program dealt with the interaction of the lifeguards and the public, and the personal lives and interpersonal relationships of the lifeguards as they worked together. The team is led by senior lifeguard Mitch Buchannon.
Baywatch, the original series, ended in 1999, and was renamed Baywatch Hawaii, being filmed in Hawaii with significant cast changes, from 1999 to 2001.
Baywatch Nights, airing from 1995 to 1997, was a spinoff of Baywatch, and there was a reunion movie, Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, in 2003.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Baywatch was the most watched TV show in the world of all time, with over 1 billion viewers per week.
