Crime Story was an hour long crime drama that ran on NBC for two seasons and 44 episodes from September 18, 1986 to May 10, 1988.
Season one began set in Chicago, where police Lieutenant Mike Torello (Dennis Farina) and mobster Ray Luca (Anthony Denison) are engaged in an ongoing vendetta against each other. Torello’s goal in life is to bring Luca down, and Luca’s is to see Torello destroyed. Extraordinary for its time, the show was aired as a series with an ever-expanding storyline continuing from episode to episode. The setting eventually moves to Las Vegas , Nevada, when Luca is sent there to oversee the mob’s casino operations, and Torello is assigned to a special Organized Crime Strike force and follows Luca.
Interestingly, both Dennis Farina and Chuck Adamson, the series’ co-creator, had been members of law enforcement in Chicago in real life, and John Santucci, who had a role as one of the mobsters, had been a notorious jewel thief.
