Magnum, P.I. was a successful American crime drama starring Tom Selleck.  

Magnum, P.I. focuses on Thomas Sullivan Magnum, a Vietnam War veteran turned private investigator, who maintains a mysterious relationship with an unseen wealthy author named Robin Masters.  The mysterious Robin Masters allows Magnum the run of his epic estate known as the Robin’s Nest on the island of Hawaii, and the use of his cars and other resources for a suggested service that Magnum performed in the past.  Although Magnum appears to live an idyllic life, one recurring thorn in his side is the Robin's Nest' s resident caretaker, British ex-soldier, Higgins. 

In early episodes the voice of Robin Masters was portrayed by Orson Welles.

Magnum, P.I. takes place in the same world as Hawaii Five-O , a fictional police unit and TV show of the same name.  Magnum references the legendary police unit several times in the program, and McGarret (Jack Lord's character) by name specifically.
