This ABC sitcom aired on television from 1979 – 1986, and was a spinoff of the TV show, Soap.
Benson DuBois is a no-nonsense butler, sent to manage the household of Governor Eugene Gatling, a widower, and his daughter, Katie, at the Governor’s mansion.
While managing the household, Benson interacts with Kraus, the German cook, John Taylor and then Clayton Endicott III, the Governor’s chief of staff, and Marcy Hill and then Denise, the Governor’s secretary.
As the series progressed, so did Benson’s responsibilities, and he moved from being butler to budget director for the state, and then to Lieutenant Governor. The program ended with a cliffhanger at the end of the last season with Benson running against Governor Gatling for the office of Governor.
