Archie Bunker's Place was a spinoff and continuation of the successful sitcom " All in the Family ".  Archie Bunker's Place focuses on the main character, Archie Bunker, taking over a bar in the Queens neighborhood of New York City .  Archie Bunker was a controversial character who throughout both series expressed conservative and bigoted views.

Jean Stapleton, who starred in All in the Family as Edith Bunker, left the show after the first season after only starring in six episodes.  Her departure prompted writers to create a plotline for the character, indicating that Edith had died of a stroke a month earlier.

Archie Bunker's Place was one of a number of spinoffs of characters created on " All in the Family ".  Several of the spinoff shows created spinoffs in their own right, creating a veritable family tree of shows spawned from " All in the Family ".  Some of the other shows spun off from " All in the Family " include "Maude", "The Jeffersons" and "Gloria".
