The Jeffersons aired on CBS from January 18th, 1975 to June 25th, 1985 for a total of eleven seasons and 253 episodes. It was an American sitcom and was the longest running comedy show with an African American cast in the history of American television. The show was a spin-off of " All in the Family " where the main characters of the show The Jeffersons were actual neighbors of Archie and Edith Bunker.
The plot centered around the main characters, George and his wife Louise Jefferson, who were considered an upper middle class African American couple. Such topics as racism, suicide and gun control among other serious topics were touched upon on various episodes. Another character that played an important role in the series was the housekeeper, Florence Johnston, played by Marla Gibbs. She would often tease George and make fun of his appearance.
