Baretta is a detective crime drama on ABC based on the real life exploits of New Jersey police officer Tony Musante.  Musante had been dramatized before in the previous ABC show "Toma" but the show received criticism for its portrayal of graphic violence.  ABC decided to cancel the original show "Toma", tone down the violence, get a new cast and thus Baretta was born.

One of the key traits of Baretta was his ability to don disguises in order to go undercover and bring the bad guys to justice.~
