Background: Los Angeles, California. The cases of Joe Mannix, an investigator for Intertect, a computerized private detective organization. Stories depict the conflict that exists between Mannix, a loner who constantly defies rules and regulations and is opposed to computerized detection; and Lou Wickersham, his superior, who believes in the scientific approach to solving crimes and is opposed to Joe’s continual use of unorthodox methods of handling cases.
