McGill, whose first name is never revealed and is sometimes called ‘Mac’ by his associates, is a former United States intelligence agent who was falsely accused and publicly denounced, forcing his expulsion from the agency .
Unable to escape his bad reputation, he establishes himself as a sort of private investigator in Europe. While trying to uncover the truth and clear his name, he is forced to take on various jobs all over Europe, and thereby virtually lives out of his suitcase.
Defensive and hard-boiled on the outside, Mac is actually a sensitive person who often rescues those who cannot take care of themselves. On the other hand, he is often duped into less-than-legal activities, being virtually blackmailed with his past by shady characters.
