Based on the 1949 movie of the same name, which starred Gregory Peck, 12 O’Clock High is a war drama television series that aired from 1964 to 1967 on ABC.
The designation ’12 o’clock high’ refers to the pilot’s naming the position of an enemy aircraft. Based on the face of a clock, 12 o’clock would mean directly ahead, and high would mean flying above.
The television program is about the members of the 918th bomber group of the U.S. Army Air Forces and the missions they flew in World War II from their base in England.
Combat footage from World War II was used since the B-17 aircraft used in the program couldn’t fly, and this meant the program was filmed in black and white for the first two seasons.
