87th Precinct was based on a series of detective novels written by Evan Hunter. 87th Precinct featured Steve Carella as a detective in the fictional city of Isola, which bears a resemblance to Manhattan. One unique aspect of the show is Detective Carella's wife who was both deaf and mute.
