The Andy Griffith Show is a slice of rural life in the 1960’s, airing on CBS from 1960 to 1968 for 249 episodes.

Set in the fictional town of Mayberry, North Carolina , the program presents the life of Sheriff Andy Taylor, his son Opie, his spinster Aunt Bee, his Deputy Barney Fife, and the other citizens of the community.

Sheriff Andy Taylor was the pillar of the community, and was often consulted by his neighbors for advice on any number of concerns, from romantic problems to where the best fishing hole was.  He seemed to always have a common sense approach and the right answers to calm a situation, whether dealing with Floyd the barber, with his deputy's mishaps, or the town drunk, Otis.

After Andy Griffith left the show the premise continued on Mayberry R.F.D. with many of the characters from The Andy Griffith Show appearing, and in 1986 Griffith made his final appearance as Andy Taylor in a made-for-TV movie called Return to Mayberry.  There were also reunion specials in 1993 and in 2003.
