Men Into Space was a science fiction dramatic program airing on CBS for one season of 38 episodes from 1959 – 1960.
The program focused on the exploits of astronaut Colonel Edward McCauley and his associates as they traveled in space on various missions, such as trying to reach Mars and building a space station on the moon. McCauley and his crew would often encounter technical failures and accidents and would have to be creative in resolving the issues. The program also included interpersonal and romantic elements of the astronauts’ lives.
The series is considered to be a fairly accurate depiction of what space exploration could someday be like, with assistance and information received from the Air Force’s space medicine and ballistic missiles offices.
