Ben Cartwright and his three sons, by three different wives, ride herd over the sprawling Ponderosa Ranch in 1860's Nevada in one of the most handsomely mounted and beloved series of all time. The first television western to be filmed in color, Bonanza ran for 14 seasons.

The Gunmen (01/23/1960)
Joe and Hoss arrive in the town of Kiowa Flats, Texas, in the middle of a feud between two families. To their misfortune, they look like a pair of gun-slinging brothers, the Slades, who have been hired by one family to kill the head of the other.
The Fear Merchants (01/30/1960)
Bigotry against the Chinese is exploited by racist Virginia City mayoral candidate Andrew Fulmer and his band of thugs. A local woman is killed and the Cartwrights' friend, young Jimmy Chang, is falsely charged with the murder. Fulmer exploits the situation in his campaign of fear and intolerance . Adam pleads with the dead girl's family to come forward with the truth.
The Spanish Grant (02/06/1960)
When the Cartwrights find out that some of the Ponderosa may be forfeited under the Spanish Land Grant, they decide to take legal action in order to stop it. Adam, however, takes another plan of action, which involves getting to know the beautiful heiress who is claiming the land under the grant.
Blood on the Land (02/13/1960)
Shady sheepherder Jeb Drummond and his sons are grazing their herds on the Ponderosa. Ben tells them to get off the property, but the Drummonds have a different idea and take Adam hostage.
Desert Justice (02/20/1960)
U.S. Marshal Emmett Dowd arrives at the Ponderosa to take ranch hand Dave Walker to face trial in Los Angeles. Concerned by the way Dowd treats Walker, and believing the man to be innocent, Adam and Hoss decide to go along to make sure that Walker reaches Los Angeles alive.
The Stranger (02/27/1960)
As Ben prepares to run for governor, a police inspector from New Orleans shows up with a warrant for his arrest on murder charges. Joe realizes it's a bogus claim and investigates to find the reason behind Inspector Leduque's long-running grudge against his father.
Escape to Ponderosa (03/05/1960)
Adam is bushwhacked by three deserters from the Army who are hiding out on the Ponderosa. When Ben pursues them, he is hindered by a Captain Bolton, the arrogant commander of a military posse who is also after the men.
San Francisco (04/02/1960)
After a long cattle drive, the Cartwrights and their men looking forward to painting the town of San Francisco. Despite Ben's warning to be careful, a couple of their naive hands get themselves shanghaied and on a boat heading to China. After Ben goes to save the men, Hoss and Joe end up having to do the same for their Pa.
Feet of Clay (04/16/1960)
The Cartwrights take young Billy Allen to the Ponderosa following the death of his mother. Hoss is the only one that is able to penetrate the boy's hostility and bitterness. As the two begin to get close, Billy's father Vance breaks out of prison and comes for the boy.
Death at Dawn (04/30/1960)
Criminals have taken over Virginia City and are forcing citizens to pay for protection lest they suffer an "accident". A store owner who didn't pay is murdered by gang member and the sole witness, the victim's wife Beth, is offered protection at the Ponderosa. For his trouble, Ben is kidnapped by the gang leader.
The season opens with the Virginia City bank being robbed. One of the robbers, Sam Kirby, gets hired as a ranch hand at the Ponderosa to keep an eye on the search activity for his gang. The Cartwrights find the new hand friendly and trustworthy, except for Joe, who has his suspicions.
The Mission (09/17/1960)
Hoss befriends Charlie Trent, a man who was once the best scout in the Army. Now a drunk, he blames himself for having led troops to their massacre. Captain Pender is looking for a reliable scout to lead his men across the desert with a shipment of gold. Seeing the chance for Charlie to redeem himself, Hoss recommends Charlie for the position. T he man he's replacing, Cutter, is waiting in the desert to steal the valuable shipment.
Badge Without Honor (09/24/1960)
Adam is rescued from an ambush by Gerald Eskith, a lawman who is on a mission to Virginia City . He's looking for Jackson Blaine, a friend of the Cartwrights, claiming he needs Blane to testify against the Murdoch gang. Accompanying them to San Francisco, Adam realizes Eskith's real agenda and discovers it may be too late to save Blaine's life.
The Hopefuls (10/08/1960)
Adam, Hoss, and new friend Sam Board act as escorts for a wagon train of Quakers who are heading to California to purchase land for their settlement. While Adam falls for the group leader's daughter, Reginia, Board plots to rob the group of its life savings.
Denver McKee (10/15/1960)
While celebrating the return of his daughter Connie from a fancy school back East, former lawman Denver McKee is asked to assist in the capture of an outlaw gang. No one is aware that McKee is in cahoots with the very criminals he's expected to bring to justice. Meanwhile, Joe is busy courting Connie.
Day of Reckoning (10/22/1960)
After being injured in a fight, Ben is nursed back to health by Matsou and his wife Hatoya. In return, Ben gives the two Indians land on the Ponderosa to settle and farm. Their new lives face dangerous resistance from Matsou's brother, who hates the white man, and a white neighbor who hates the Indian.
Breed of Violence (11/05/1960)
Joe's friend Dolly Kincaid rebels against her authoritarian father, a sheriff, and runs off with the charming Vince Dagen. She's blissfully unaware that Vince is a criminal and she's involved with a dangerous crowd. Joe fears for Dolly's safety, so he hops on his horse to catch up with the couple.
The Last Viking (11/12/1960)
Gunnar Borgstrom is the leader of a vicious band called the Commancheros. They burn houses, kill people and steal anything of value. When the Commancheros get to Nevada, Gunnar decides to visit his relatives, the Cartwrights. Meanwhile the gang capture Little Joe and his girlfriend. When Gunnar returns to the gang, he has no idea who Joe is because he'd never met his nephew before.
The Trail Gang (11/26/1960)
Ben and Hoss hire a new trail gang to take cattle back to Nevada. The group includes a young drifter using the name Sam Jackson. In reality, he's outlaw Johnny Logan who intends to kill Sheriff Logan, his father, when they pass through Waycross. The leader of the trail gang, Brazis, recognizes Logan but keeps it to himself.
The Savage (12/03/1960)
While traveling, Adam is wounded by Indians and left for dead. He is found by Ruth, a white Shoshone woman who was long believed to have the power to heal. Once the tribe decided that she had no powers, they sentenced her to death. With Adam's injuries, "White Buffalo Woman", as she's known, has a chance to redeem herself in the eyes of her tribe.
Silent Thunder (12/10/1960)
Captivated by the pretty, deaf-mute daughter of a reclusive mountain man, Little Joe teaches Ann sign language. Thrilled with her new-found ability to communicate, Annie mistakes her gratitude to Little Joe for love. This sits poorly with Albie, an oafish man obsessed with Ann who wants her for his own.

Hoss tries to help Arnie, a childlike hulking man with a dangerous temper and great strength. Things seem to be going well until Arnie falls for a saloon girl Shari. Hoss regretfully realizes that he he's facing an uphill battle to help Arnie have the kind of life he's always wanted.
The Bloodline (12/31/1960)
The son of Luke Grayson arrives from the East and learns that Ben Cartwright shot and killed his father. Ben fired only in self-defense and feels badly for young young man. Todd Grayson vows revenge and recruits a professional gunman to get back at the Cartwrights.
