Yancy Derringer is a Western series that ran on CBS from October 2, 1958 to September 24, 1959, with Jock Mahoney in the title role and his Indian friend, Pahoo. The series is based on a 1938 short story written by Richard Sale. Yancy Derringer is a gentleman adventurer, a roguish riverboat gambler and a former Confederate Army officer who has returned to New Orleans , Louisiana in 1868, three years after the end of the Civil War. Widely respected by New Orleans society, he is asked by the city administrator, John Colton, to work as an secret agent without pay in his struggle to institute a system of law and order in a city overrun with corruption , and only Colton knows of Yancy's special work for his office. Yancy agrees, because the United States is one nation again.
