Wagon Train

(1957-1965)

Western

Wagon Train is an American Western series that was broadcast on NBC from 1957–1962 and then on ABC from 1962–1965.  The series initially starred Ward Bond as the wagon master , later replaced upon his death by John McIntire, and Robert Horton as the scout.  The series was inspired by the 1950 film Wagon Master and harkens back to the early widescreen wagon train epic The Big Trail (1930).  The show chronicles the adventures of a wagon train as it makes its way West from Missouri to California during the 1880's.

Episodes focus on the lives of individuals who have booked passage—people, both the troubled and carefree, who are alive in the dream of promise that awaits them at their journey’s end.
