Decoy was the first American police drama series broadcast on television, with original episodes airing from 1957 to 1958 for one season.
Casey Jones, a female police officer, was often assigned to work undercover as a decoy. She was portrayed as a no-nonsense female officer, styled in part after Sgt. Joe Friday on Dragnet. Women were often the victims in the episodes, and most ended with the star speaking directly to the audience about the case that has been resolved.
Officer Jones was the only continuing character of the series, with the cast changing each week. Guest stars included Ed Asner, Martin Balsam, Barbara Barrie, Peter Falk, Colleen Dewhurst, Larry Hagman, Diane Ladd, and Suzanne Pleshette.
Casey moves into a seedy rooming house to try to befriend a woman whose former boyfriend was a suspect in a jewel robbery.
