Code 3 was one of the many fact-inspired crime dramas seen in the 1950’s, with its stories based on actual case files of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The title derives from common law enforcement language, Code 3 meaning to respond with lights and siren.
The episodes would open with a police operator receiving a call and then passing the call on to the dispatcher who would contact officers to respond. The calls could involve anything from robberies to murder.
At the end of each episode, Sheriff Eugene W. Biscailuz, the real Los Angeles County Sheriff, would appear to wrap up the case. Sheriff Biscailuz was a veteran of over 50 years serving the Sheriff’s Department.
