The Lawrence Welk Show

(1955-1982)

(July 2nd, 1955 to April 7th, 1982)

Musical Variety

The Lawrence Welk Show was an American television show that was a musical variety show hosted by band leader, Lawrence Welk.  The show first aired on KTLA from 1951-1955 and then on ABC from 1955-1971.  A total of 1065 episodes were aired and all shows were 60 minutes long.

The show would normally begin with the viewer seeing bubbles on the screen and hear a champagne bottle opening.  Welk would introduce the theme each week which was normally musical.  Bands would perform and if a dance number was played it was not uncommon to see Welk dancing with ladies in the audience.  Welk had a high set of morals and he did lose some good staff over various disputes.
