Musical Variety
The Lawrence Welk Show was an American television show that was a musical variety show hosted by band leader, Lawrence Welk. The show first aired on KTLA from 1951-1955 and then on ABC from 1955-1971. A total of 1065 episodes were aired and all shows were 60 minutes long.
The show would normally begin with the viewer seeing bubbles on the screen and hear a champagne bottle opening. Welk would introduce the theme each week which was normally musical. Bands would perform and if a dance number was played it was not uncommon to see Welk dancing with ladies in the audience. Welk had a high set of morals and he did lose some good staff over various disputes.
