The setting of the program is in the ‘modern’ west, where Jim Newton is the owner of the Broken Wheel Ranch in California. When he finds Joey in town, being dragged before a judge for something he didn’t do, Jim discovers that Joey is an orphan. Willing to take a chance on the boy, Jim initiates adoption procedures and takes Joey with him back to the ranch.
There Joey proves himself to be a decent boy, and he meets Fury, the beautiful stallion. Joey and Fury forge a tight bond and become fast friends .
