"Duffy's Tavern, where the elite meet to eat. Archie speaking." The program often featured celebrity guest stars but always hooked them around the misadventures, get-rich-quick schemes and romantic missteps of the title establishment's malapropism prone, metaphor-mixing manager, Archie. The television show, based on the very popular radio program from the 1940's, did not score big with audiences, and was canceled after a single season of 26 episodes. However, its influence lived on in a variety of popular shows, with Archie Bunker's Place , The Simpsons, and Cheers as prime examples.
The Grand Opening celebration is a complete flop, with all of Archie's customers hanging out at the gambling hall next door--until Archie let's it be known he dropped one of Miss Duffy's rings in the chicken fricassee, that is.
Archie Faces Marriage
