The Ed Sullivan Show aired on CBS for a total of 24 seasons from June 20, 1948 to June 6, 1971 and 1068 episodes.  It was done in black and white from 1948-1965 and then in color from 1965-1971.  The program was hosted by New York entertainment columnist, Ed Sullivan, and had every type of entertainer appear such as opera singers, song writers, comedians, dancers and even circus acts.  The original title of the program was Toast of the Town.

The Ed Sullivan Show would have different talent appear weekly every Sunday evening as well as bringing back recurring characters.   Most of the shows were filmed in New York City , but some were done live overseas in places such as the United Kingdom, Australia and Japan.
