CBS Radio Mystery Theater was a radio drama series created by Himan Brown for CBS Radio affiliates between 1974 and 1982.  The format was designed to mimic the older radio broadcasts such as " The Mysterious Traveler " and " The Whistler ".  CBS Radio Mystery Theater was introduced by E.G. Marshall, who continued to provide wisdom and commentary throughout.  The show focused on a somewhat macabre theme, with the intro sound being a creaky crypt door after which E.G. Marshall stated, "Welcome.  I am E.G. Marshall."

CBS Radio Mystery Theater was broadcast each week, in one hour episodes, which would be a mix of original shows and reruns.  In total 1,399 original episodes were broadcast between 1974 and 1982.
