Tom Corbett, Space Cadet was based on the 1948 novel, "Space Cadet".  The main character was Tom Corbett.  He was depicted in television, radio, comic books, coloring books, comic strips and view master reels in the 1950's.   

The stories followed the training of the three main characters, Tom Corbett, Astro, and Roger Manning, all cadets training to be members of the elite Solar Guard.  Majority of the action is set to take place on alien worlds that are both within our solar system and in orbit around nearby stars.
