Musical Variety
Cast: Spike Jones and his City Slickers, Dorothy Shay, Doodles Weaver and guest stars
Broadcast from San Francisco, Chicago, Indianapolis or Detroit, wherever the band was appearing, this musical variety show from the late 1940's was hosted by Spike Jones and featured his City Slickers, Dorothy Shay ('The Park Avenue Hillbilly') and Doodles Weaver.
Spike Jones was notorious for his musical stylings and routines where he and the City Slickers would make music on nearly everything imaginable from washboards to cowbells to kitchen utensils. They even made music on a 'birdaphone' and the 'latrinophone', a toilet seat with strings. Comedy sketches were interspersed with the musical numbers, and guest stars were a regular part of the program.
