In 1938 Orson Welles was performing adaptations of novels for The Mercury Theater on the Air broadcast. The debut of the series was an adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic horror novel, Dracula . The show was broadcast in a 60 minute format.
The story remains true to the novel about a seductive vampire who returns to London seeking a young girl that looks identical to his long lost love, and the attempts to stop him by Dr. Van Helsing.
Also in the Mercury Theater on the Air broadcasts by Orson Welles is the single most well-known radio broadcast of all time, The War of the Worlds .
