Fantasy / Kid's Show

Cast: Howard Merrill, George Bryan and Jackson Wheeler

Let's Pretend was a children's story show created by Nila Mack and broadcast on CBS between 1929 and 1954.  Let's Pretend went through several incarnations before finalizing its signature theme.  Originally called "Aunt Jymmie and Her Tots in Tottyville" in 1928, the show was introduced by Aunt Jymmie and then a cast of children would enact a fairy tale while Aunt Jymmie narrated.  The Aunt Jymmie version lasted a single year and in 1929 the format was changed to "The Children's Club Hour" featuring Howard Merrill.  After only 17 broadcasts, the show was changed again to "The Adventures of Helen and Mary".  Another change occurred between December of 1930 and January 1931, and the show was changed again to "Land O' Make Believe".  This incarnation lasted until 1934, when Nila Mack joined the show .

Nila Mack retitled the show one last time to "Let's Pretend", and the show remained popular for 20 years, winning a Peabody Award for its achievements.  Let's Pretend would continue its format of letting children enact the roles for such popular fairy tales as Cinderella , Sleeping Beauty , Beauty and the Beast and Rumpelstiltskin.
