An ex-cop, Harry Ross is a private investigator approaching the end of his career.  He is living with friends, Jack and Catherine, a retired actor who is dying of cancer and his actress wife.

When Jack asks him for a favor Ross does not realize that he will soon be embroiled in a twenty year old case involving deceit , murder, cops on the take and blackmail.  Complicating the case, Harry enters into an affair with Catherine.
