Kurt Russell plays the legendary retired peace officer named Wyatt Earp who travels to Tombstone,
Arizona where his brothers Virgil and Morgan live, played by
Sam Elliott and
Bill Paxton.
Val Kilmer plays
Doc Holliday, Wyatt’s friend of many years. Holliday suffers from tuberculosis which causes him to consume huge amounts of liquor, but also happens to be a professional
gunslinger and gambler. Problems arise after Wyatt and his brothers run into a gang of criminals known as the 'Cowboys', led by “Curly Bill” Brocious. Wyatt feels the pressure of returning to the law after
the Cowboys begin to cause problems. Marshal Red White is killed by Curly Bill after he tried to take his weapons after shooting a man in the saloon over cheating at poker. This leads to Wyatt arresting Curly Bill for the murder, but he is soon released by
the judge due to lack of witnesses. Virgil becomes the new marshal, due to his frustration with Tombstone being a lawless town.
A gunfight at the O.K. Corral leads to three of
the Cowboys being killed, as well as Virgil and Morgan injured.
The Cowboys retaliate, killing Morgan and severely injuring Virgil.
Doc’s health becomes an issue and Wyatt is determined to put the town back in order after the killing of his brother, Morgan. He ends up killing Curly Bill, but his problems are far from being solved as
Johnny Ringo becomes the new leader of
the Cowboys .
