The film centers on the brothers Helmut and Karl Hoffman. At the beginning of Hitler’s reign, they both come into their positions, Helmut being a SS rank officer and Karl joining the SA. Karl endures the devious side of Nazism and is sent to jail after the SA is broken up. He is later enlisted in the German army. Both brothers become rivals.
