Lovers and Liars (1979)

Lovers and Liars

(1979)

94 minutes

Film / Comedy / Romance

Directed by Mario Monicelli

Cast: Goldie Hawn, Giancarlo Giannini and Claudine Auger

Country: Italy

Scrappy Italian comedy is made up of bits and pieces, never quite coming together. Goldie Hawn, as vivacious as ever, is an American actress named Anita who is vacationing in Rome and gets mixed up with her friend's married lover, Guido Massacesi (a smoldering Giancarlo Giannini). They have little screwball mishaps and misunderstandings before making love in a hammock. Hawn is in scatterbrain-mode, but she has fine moments too and works well with Giancarlo. There's a funny scene near the beginning when Guido visits his current lover and finds her undressed. Surprised, she grabs the first thing she can to cover herself which is of course a poster of herself naked!
