The film is set during the 1972 elections, where Bob Woodward, a Washington Post reporter is writing about what seems to be a small burglary at the Democratic Party National base. Important lawyers are brought onto the defense case and he is shocked to find why they are needed. Names and Republican fund organizers are getting blamed and he becomes skeptical about the situation. His boss assigns him and Carl Bernstein to cover the story and they find many things leading to the Republican Party and then to the White House and eventually President Richard M. Nixon.
