James Devlin was a former gunslinger, now reformed, who is wrongfully accused of murder , convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. Miraculously surviving the execution, Devlin discovers that his near death experience has given him the ability to know men's thoughts. Using this new ability along with his skills as a gunfighter, Devlin sets out to work on the right side of the law for his remaining days. His first task is to assist Carrie Gault, a young window trying to hold onto her land and keep it from the clutches of Lew Halleck, a mining tycoon with his eyes on her property.
