Romance is kindled during World War II in the heart of France. The French people are fleeing from the German advance to the south, many of them in freight cars. Jean-Louis is separated from his wife and allows a Jewish girl, Romy, to pose as his wife. They become very close, but she must leave when he is reunited with his wife.
