The film is set in Paris during World War I. Lili Smith/Schmidt is a German spy sent on a mission to assist Germany. One of her peers does not think she is qualified to complete the operation since she is British. It is not long before she is tracking down Major William Larrabee everywhere he goes. They have been spending a lot of time together and thinks about him whenever he is not near. She soon falls in love with him, which makes her assignment more difficult.
