Clint Eastwood plays Jed Cooper who is caught by a group of vigilantes, for they believe he is guilty of murder and cattle rustling. They hang him and leave the scene, believing he is dead, but he isn't. He becomes a lawman and searches for the men that almost killed him to bring them to justice.
