The film centers around the days nearing to D-Day in 1944, where the British learn of the thousands of American soldiers that are being paid too much for what they are doing. Charlie Mason is all too familiar with this and knows how to play his cards right without getting into trouble. He runs into problems when he becomes interested in an English woman. Then his commanding officer suffers from an anxiety attack that sends him on a insignificant and risky assignment.
