Major Ben Marco is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army who has served as a captainin the Korean War and his Sergeant, Raymond Shaw, is the recipient of the Medal of Honor. Marco has been having the same nightmare in which two of his members are murdered by Shaw. He travels to New York to visit Shaw and meets his controlling mother, Mrs. Eleanor Shaw Iselin who is a Republican. She will accuse anyone of being a Communist if they disagree with her political views. Raymond despises her, as well as his step-father, U.S. Senator John Iselin, who is determined to climb the ladder. Marco finds out that he’s not the only one having the same nightmare, but others in his unit as well and Raymond Shaw is part of the same nightmare.
