While vacationing on a boat, off the California coast, with his wife Louise, Robert Scott Carey is suddenly contaminated by a radioactive cloud. Luckily, at the time, Louise was below deck getting refreshments, so she wasn't affected by the radiation. Afterwards, Scott, the 6 ft. tall business man, thinks little of the cloud and doesn't appear to have been affected by it. However, six months later, he notices one morning that his shirt seems too big, and of course blames it on the cleaners. Next his wedding ring falls off his finger and as this trend continues, he is convinced he is shrinking. At first his wife dismisses his fears, but she can no longer deny what is happening when he looks her in the eye, when she previously had been six inches shorter than him. After visiting a research laboratory, he learns that exposure to the radioactive mist has caused his cells to shrink.
