Captain Benson discovers of Custer's annihilation at the Little Big Horn when he returns back to Fort Lincoln. During the investigation Custer's Officers accuse Custer for the annihilation and Benson comes to his defense. But the troops are suspicious of Benson since he was mysteriously away during the fight and now dislike him for it. So when a command comes their way to recover the bodies from the fight, Benson enlist himself for the treacherous task of going back into Indian land.
