Frank Sinatra plays Johnny Concho, a young and immature kid who has a well-known gunfighter brother. Most of the residents in town do not believe in Johnny and think he will make nothing of himself. Mary Dark and Barney Clark are the only ones to believe in him and love him for who he is. His world is turned upside down when he finds out his brother has been murdered and the killers plan to rule their town. Johnny, having no courage, runs away, but returns to persuade the residents to help him put an end to the murderers. At the end, he is left to deal with them all alone.
