Glenn Griffin has just fled from jail with his brother Hal and inmate Sam Kobish where they find a house to stay at in the suburbs to hide. Dan and Ellie are the owners of the house and have a 19-year old daughter Cindy and young son Ralph. Their plan is to stay there until Griffin’s girlfriend meets them with money she has saved. Their stay extends to a longer period of time, after she does not arrive. Dan becomes aware of the men staying at his house, but does not want his family involved with the authorities around.
