Shot on location in Egypt and Rome, Howard Hawks’ “Land of the Pharaohs” was released by Warner Brothers Pictures in 1955.  According to Warner Brothers, the film used 9,787 extras in one scene alone.  Vashtar (James Robertson Justice) is an Egyptian architect enslaved by Pharaoh Khufu (Jack Hawkins).  The Pharaoh orders Vashtar to build him a tomb where he can rest for eternity, and where his treasure will be safe from thieves.  Nellifer (Joan Collins) is sent to the Pharaoh from Cyprus, where she is soon made his second wife, and she begins to plot his death so that she can inherit all of his treasure.
