Matt Calder lives on a secluded farm with his young son Mark. They end up helping two unexpected visitors who were left stranded on the river . Harry Weston and his wife, Kay, are the two visitors. Weston is a professional gambler who is in search of the closest town to sign up for a mining claim he has won in a poker game. Weston ends up leaving his wife with Calder when Calder does not allow him to take his only rifle and horse. He still leaves with the two, leaving Calder, his son and Kay with nothing to defend themselves with. They start the dangerous trip down the river to the raft.
