Terry Malloy used to be a champion fighter and now lives a life taking care of his pigeons and completing assignments at the dock for Johnny Friendly, the unscrupulous boss of the dockers' union. Terry observes a murder taking place by two of Johnny’s bandits. He later encounters the victim’s sister and feels guilty for the murder. The sister introduces him to Father Berry, who persuades him to inform the authorities that will end the corrupt gang.

On the Waterfront was awarded 8 Academy Awards at the 27th Academy Awards Ceremony in 1955.
