A scientific exploration leads a crew to find a prehistoric Gillman in the Black Lagoon after trying to find fossils near the Amazon River. They capture the creature, but it escapes and comes back to kidnap the beautiful Kay Lawrence, who is the fiancée of one of the explorers.

It is considered a classic horror film of the 1950's, and it generated two sequels - Revenge of the Creature and The Creature Walks Among Us.
