Steve Martin is a former Navy engineer who travels to Louisiana in 1946 with dreams to build a safe platform for offshore oil drilling. With no money, a big oil company finances his project. Steve and his partner Johnny becomes interested in shrimp-boat captain Rigaud's two beautiful daughters. The fishing community begins to oppose Steve and Johnny.
