Jim Deakins lives on the frontier and is an Indian trader making a treacherous trip with a bunch of other men up the Missouri River to get a big transport of furs from the warm hearted Blackfoot Indians. The obstacle they have to overcome is getting by the malevolent Indian province. Little by little the group of men diminishes.
