Lt. John Harkness is enlisted as the new commander of a submarine chaser. He has an engineering degree, yet very little experience. The submarine is complete with a highly advanced steam engine and he anticipates the rest of his crew will offer their advice and help to complete his job well. He quickly realizes they have no experience with the new engine, leaving him with no help.
